
The judge of the Seventh Court of Instruction, Deiby Timoteo Peguero sent Juan Alexis and Carmen Magaly Medina Sanchez, siblings of former President Danilo Medina to trial. They are accused in the Antipulpo case, that encompasses major irregularities primarily in sales to the government entities. The brother and sister of the former President (2012-2020) are accused of irregularities in public tenders in several government institutions.
Judge Timoteo made the decision after considering that the accusation presented by the prosecution had sufficient ground to justify the probable guilt of the accused.
Also Fernando Rosa, and Wacal Bernabé Méndez, Lorenzo Hidalgo, Aquiles Cristopher, Antonio Florentino and companies, Rigoberto Alcantara Batista, Carlos José Alarcón, Fulvio Antonio Cabrera, José Idelfonso Correa, Libni Valenzuela, Francisco Brea, Víctor Encarnación Montero, Lina Ercilia de la Cruz Vargas, Patricia Enmanuel Ramírez, Carlos Martín Montes de Oca and Paola Molina, Rafael Antonio Germosen Andújar and José Miguel Genaro.
The judge likewise accepted the agreements reached between the Public Prosecutor’s Office and those implicated in Operation Anti-Pulpo case.
Timoteo Peguero accepted the accusation of the Public Prosecutor’s Office against Medina Sánchez and Rosa Rosa and declared an order to open a trial against them. He did the same with Carmen Magalys Sanchez Medina and 21 others charged in the irregularities in public tenders in several government institutions that allegedly favored the brother of former President Danilo Medina during his two administrations (2012-2020).
The judge of the Seventh Court of Instruction of the National District Timotel Peguero sentenced to five years in prison, three of them suspended, Francisco Pagán, former director of the Office of Supervisory Engineers of State Works (OISOE), implicated in Operation Antipulpo.
Judge Deiby Timoteo Peguero also imposed the same sentence to Julián Suriel Suazo, Domingo Antonio Santiago Muñoz and Lewin Ariel Castillo, with the same number of years suspended, after accepting the agreements reached between the accusing body and those implicated in the case of alleged corruption.
Carlos Salcedo, defense lawyer for the Medina brother and sister was not happy about the judge’s decision. Wilson Camacho, chief prosecutor for the Attorney General Office, called the decision a landmark one.
