The Ministry of Public Works shut down the tunnel that connects Ortega y Gasset Avenue with the state university, UASD. Concrete particles had fallen from the roof of the 11-year old north-south tunnel. The closing is until the situation can be repaired.
A press release from the Ministry of Public Works says citizens will be notified when the traffic through the important underpass is resumed.
The tunnel was inaugurated on 12 January 2012 during the Leonel Fernandez presidency. It serves to decongest traffic on Maximo Gomez and 27 de Febrero avenues.
