
The acting ambassador of the United States Embassy, Robert W. Thomas has confirmed he will leave the position at the end of February 2023. Thomas is deputy chief of mission and has served as charge d’affaires at the US Embassy since 20 January 2021, after the highly regarded political appointee Robin Bernstein left with the installment of President Joe Biden. When appointed, Thomas was said to remain in charge of the diplomatic mission until the appointment by the United States government of a new ambassador to the Dominican Republic. This has yet to occur.
The US Embassy has not announced who will remain in charge of the US Embassy in replacement of Thomas.
