The Chamber of Deputies passed amendments to Electoral Regime Law 15-19. The initiative received the vote of 108 in favor and 44 against. The bill had already passed in the Senate and now moves to the Presidency for enactment.
The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, praised legislators for moving ahead with the changes in time for these to be implemented for the February 2024 municipal election and May 2024 presidential and congressional elections.
He indicated that the Electoral Regime bill is not an initiative of any political party, but it is an initiative prepared by the Central Electoral Board (JCE). Nevertheless, as passed in Congress, the bill includes a new supra organism made of legislators to supervise and override decisions by the Central Electoral Board (JCE).
