The 2023 National Carnival Parade is set for 26 February 2023. Meanwhile, the 2023 carnival season is well underway with some major ups and downs. A young boy was shot and killed in Santiago de los Caballeros in a very confusing incident, and Santiago has shut down their carnival, one of the most popular ones, for 2023.
In La Vega there is a court battle between participating groups, the organizers and authorities.
But no matter, there will be carnival activities in La Vega, Bonao, Cotui, Santo Domingo and many other places.
In recognition of the enormous cultural impact of the carnival, President Luis Abinader announces several “best” awards for carnival participates.
All these prizes and categories are contained in Decree 60-23 that was enacted by President Abinader last week.
Carnival this year is scheduled to close with the Sunday, 26 February 2023 parade along the Santo Domingo Malecon.
