DR promotes Santiago in Colombia’s Anato Travel Show

For the second time, the Dominican Republic will be the guest of honor of Colombia’s Anato Travel Show, its main travel booking event. With the start of low-cost carriers offering attractive airfares between both countries all year round, the Dominican Republic is now ranked as the fourth most popular destination for Colombians traveling abroad.

The 42nd Anato Travel Show takes place 22, 23 and 24 February 2023 in Bogotá, Colombia. Travel agencies, hotels, airlines, tourism representation companies, national and international destinations meet to generate business opportunities through strategic alliances.

Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro has announced he will be attending the Colombian travel show this year.

The director of Anato, Paula Cortés Calle highlights that this year Santiago de los Caballeros, the second largest city in the Dominican Republic, will be presented as a tourism destination for Colombian travelers. Santiago is known for its medical tourism and is a place to travel to enjoy the cigar culture, gastronomy in general and culture and history. The Anato travel show will also highlight the Dominican Republic as a choice destination for golfers, weddings, meetings, family gatherings.

The Ministry of Tourism reports that based on data from Migración Colombia, in 2022, 88,193 Dominicans traveled to Colombia, up 167% compared to pre-pandemic year of 2019.

In addition, in relation to outbound tourism, in 2022, 258,856 Colombians traveled to the Dominican Republic, up 154% compared to 2019.

The Dominican Republic is ranked 7th in arrival of foreigners to Colombia for tourism, events and business purposes.
