Judge Francis Yojary Reyes Diloné ordered 35-year old high school mathematics and physical education teacher John Kelly Martinez serve 12 months in pre-trial custody at the Anamuya Jail in La Altagracia province. He is the lead suspect in the death of 16-year old Esmeralda Richiez.
His cousin or nephew, 20-year old Ruben Morillo Martinez (or Rubiel Morillo Martinez) was ordered to appear periodically. Morillo Martinez’s name was mispelled and there have been differences in his ID in the prosecution file. His age or photo was not given.
Noticias SIN reports that the family of the deceased minor could be considering suing the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the handling of the autopsy. Noticias Sin reports irregularities in the funeral home that transported Esmeralda’s body for alleged family ties with the main defendant in the case.
The defense lawyer of the family of the deceased said they will request an exhumation of the body and a second autopsy to clarify several questions.
