The Corripio Foundation and the Ministry of Culture presented the National Literature Award to Monsignor Freddy Antonio de Jesús Bretón Martínez, for being a meritorious author of historical, spiritual and social themes and for his contributions to poetry, novel, biography, essay and the exemplary use of the word.

The ceremony on 21 February 2023 at the National Theater was headed by Vice President Raquel Peña, Ana Corripio de Barceló, Minister of Culture Milagros Germán, José Alcántara Almánzar, Juan Daniel Balcácer, Carmen Pérez Valerio and Carlos Veitía.

“I humbly receive this award that flatters and commits me. I understand that it is a stimulus, especially for young people and the generations to come,” said Bretón after receiving the National Literature Award, consisting of a diploma and a check for RD$2 million, which he said he would donate to social works.

“I would be more than satisfied if, looking at my career, some young people would find enough motivation to overcome obstacles and fight hard to give the best of their abilities to the country,” he said.
