The Lapa Arches, also known as the Carioca Aqueduct, were lit up with the colors of the Dominican flag on the occasion of Dominican Independence Day on 27 February 2023.
The Dominican consulate in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil reported the happening on its Instagram account. The event marked the first time the Arcos de Lapa showed the colors of the Dominican flag.
The arches are located in downtown Rio de Janeiro and are regarded as the most important architectural work heritage of the colonial period.
The lighting up of the arches with the Dominican flag marked the 179th anniversary of the Dominican independence from Haiti.
