
Macadamia La Loma, the leading macadamia nut producer in the Dominican Republic, has reached an alliance with Starbucks to sell the small packages of nuts in the five Santo Domingo stores the chain has opened in the Dominican Republic.
With more than 32,000 stores worldwide, Starbucks is the world’s leading roaster and retailer of specialty coffees. The international Starbucks chain arrived in the country in 2020 and is preparing to expand to new cities in the Dominican territory and have seven stores by the end of the year.
As part of its corporate commitment to support local initiatives and consistent with the care of the environment and sustainability is carrying out an alliance with Corporación Agrícola La Loma and its brand Macadamia La Loma to offer this product in its stores and thus support this inclusive initiative for more than 260 families producing this nut from the Dominican highlands, Macadamia La Loma reports.
Jesus Moreno explained Starbucks is contributing a percentage of the sales to help sustainable farming.
This new alliance will allow Starbucks customers to learn more about this nut and how its cultivation is helping to recover mountains in the Dominican Republic, thus supporting an inclusive agro-industrial model. More than 160,000 macadamia trees have been planted and more than 12,000 hectares reforested.
The macadamia nut is one of the most delicious and nutritious of nuts, due to its creamy flavor and abundance of monounsaturated fats and protein. Due to its abundance of monounsaturated fatty acids, it is a suitable food to prevent cardiovascular diseases. The nut is rich in B vitamins and is highly energetic, while it does not contain gluten. The nut is known by many with the nickname of “the queen of nuts.
