When Angel Hernandez was appointed Minister of Education in August 2022 he found billions of unused items in Ministry of Education warehouses. The Ministry of Education said many of these items were obsolete. Media reported the items were awaiting incineration. Yet, now the Ministry of Education says the textbooks will be distributed. He said Education technicians deemed them suitable as reference and support material for the students.
The items include around 600,000 textbooks for mathematics, Spanish language, natural sciences, social sciences, arts and integral human and religious formation. There are also 800,000 physical education and foreign language texts, 100,000 dictionaries.
“This adds up to more than three million educational resources that were resting in the warehouses and that because they contained the presentations of some ministers, were not distributed for years,” said the director of Educational Resources of the institution, Carlos Vidal, in a press release distributed on 7 March 2023.
