The Dominican Republic is the favorite to win the World Baseball Classic that opened with games worldwide on 8 March 2023. The DR is in Pool D and will play Israel, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. The DR first plays Venezuela on 11 March in Miami.
But that favorite status is not going to the Dominican players’ heads, says Rodney Linares, team manager. “In this tournament, there are no small rivals,” said manager Rodney Linares in a press conference on Wednesday.
President Luis Abinader is traveling to Miami to be present for the first game of the DR vs Venezuela.
Robinson Cruz, who played with the championship-winning 2013 team and introduced “platano power,” says the chemistry in this team is similar to that of the 2013 team.
