Former President Danilo Medina traveled to and from Miami, Florida in a private jet. He left and arrived to the La Isabela International Airport.
As reported in Diario Libre, he was picked up by his chauffeur at the airport. Medina did not say with whom he traveled to Miami. Media photos show him descending alone from the private jet that brought him from Miami. He had traveled by private jet to Miami.
The former President of the Republic (2012-2020) said on his Twitter account upon returning that he has prostate cancer. He explained treatment by medics in the Dominican Republic did not give the expected results so he traveled abroad for new consultations. He said he will return to treat his cancer in the United States.
The American Cancer Society says on prostate cancer: Prostate cancer can be a serious disease, but most men diagnosed with prostate cancer do not die from it.
US statistics indicate that more than 90% of men diagnosed with prostate cancer live for five years or longer after treatment, making it one of the most curable forms of cancer.
The trip abroad was just days before the arrest of his former Minister of Hacienda, Donald Guerrero; his former Minister of Public Works Gonzalo Castillo; and his former Administrative Minister of the Presidency for corruption (Squid Operation).
Also under pre-trial custody are the President’s brother and sister Juan Alexis Medina and Carmen Medina (Anti-Pulpo case), and his security chief Adams Caceres Silvestre (Coral Case), and his attorney general Jean Alain Rodriguez (Medusa case).
The accusations in the most recent Squid Case primarily focuses on the period 2019-2020 in the pre-electoral and electoral times and first months of the Covid-19 epidemic when the government practically closed while there was a flurry of activity at the Ministry of Hacienda.
