President of Chile protests government in Nicaragua at 28th Iberoamerican Summit

The visiting President of Chile Gabriel Boric took advantage of the company of 13 Presidents at the 28th Iberoamerican Summit in Santo Domingo to denounce what he called the dictatorship of President Daniel Ortega and his wife Rosario Murillo in Nicaragua. Nicaragua did not send a President or Vice President to the event. It did send its foreign relations minister.

President Boric called his colleagues at the plenary not to “remain silent” in the face of the “family dictatorship” that governs the Central American nation. He was alluding to the regime of Daniel Ortega and his wife, Rosario Murillo. Boric has condemned the massive withdrawal of Nicaraguan citizenship to regime dissidents and offered them Chilean nationality.

The attending Foreign Minister of Nicaragua Denis Moncada demanded respect for his country and its people from President Gabriel Boric. He accused the Chilean President of betraying his country and surrendering to the US empire and its allies. Nevertheless, Moncada assured that Managua will not break relations with Chile “for its anti-Latin American attitude.”
