
The trial against Fausto Miguel de Jesús Cruz de la Mota, the confessed murderer of the former Minister of the Environment Orlando Jorge Mera, is now set to start on 25 April 2023.
Cruz de la Mota will be criminally prosecuted in first instance by the Fourth Collegiate Court of the National District presided by magistrate Keila Pérez Santana. The other judges are Elías Santini Perera and Arisleida Méndez Batista.
Cruz de la Mota is awaiting trial in the Najayo Jail, San Cristobal. He is accused of killing Jorge Mera on 6 June 2020 at the Ministry of Environment. The two were alone when the killing occurred in the office of the minister of Environment. Reports indicate Cruz de la Mota fired six bullets to kill his long-time friend.
Orlando Jorge Mera is the son of former President Salvador Jorge Blanco.
