The 2023 Major League Baseball season began on 30 March 2023 with around 100 Dominicans on the team rosters. In the MLB, nearly one of every six players is from the Dominican Republic. Three Dominican pitchers, Sandy Alcantara (Miami Marlins), Framber Valdez (Houston Astros) and Luis Castillo (Seattle Mariners) had the honor of being the opening-day starter for their teams.
There are only four teams in the National League that do not have a Dominican player on their opening day roster. Dominicans play in all the American League teams. The MLB defending champion team, the Houston Astros of the National League, has eight players on its roster from the Dominican Republic.
