Works are advancing at a fast pace on the restoring of the collapsed area of Pier 6 at the Sans Souci Port in Santo Domingo. The area collapsed under the weight of steel rods irregularly deposited there. The port was not built for heavy cargo. Dominican authorities say there was negligence on behalf of the port operators.
Much of the merchandise collapsed to the bottom of the river and needs to be removed. Meanwhile, metal bars still at the site were removed.
The director of the Department of Communications of the Ministry of Public Works (MOPC), Andres Matos said last week that it was “negligence” of the concessionaire of the Port Don Diego, San Souci Ports, which caused the collapse of the terminal, according to data from the preliminary assessment in the investigation process.
