
National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) agents and port authorities discovered more than two tons of cocaine that had arrived to the Caucedo Multimodal Port on a freight container from Ecuador. The cargo of 2,271 packages was in transit to Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
The cocaine shipment hidden in a freight container of bananas. The load has a street value of EUR31 million or around RD$8 billion in the Dominican Republic.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an exhaustive investigation. Any arrests have not been made public.
The recent cocaine haul is the second largest seized shipment of cocaine. The largest was also detected at the Caucedo Multimodal Port, a 2,582 kg shipment in 2006, as reported in El Dia.
