Vice President Raquel Peña in Japan

Vice President Raquel Peña visited Japan from 31 March to 5 April 2023. During her stay in Japan, she was received by Prime Minister Kishida Fumio. She also visited Hiroshima.

The Ministry of Japan reported on the official visit: “The Dominican Republic is an important partner that shares fundamental values with Japan, and places high value on democracy and free trade, among others. On the occasion of Vice President Peña’s visit to Japan, the two countries will exchange views on further strengthening of bilateral relations and address various global issues in light of the current international situation.”

The Vice President met with the Dominican diaspora to listen to their concerns. She highlighted how important Dominicans living abroad.

The Vice President traveled with Industry & Commerce Minister Victor Bisonó; Economy & Planning Minister Pavel Isa. She was accompanied by the executive director of the Vice President Office, Kristian Schulz, Dominican ambassador Robert Takata and Dominican consul Richard Collie.

Following the visit in Japan, the Vice President is headed to South Korea for an official visit.
