CAID has served 5,000 children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and autism

The Center for Integral Attention to Disability (CAID) has attended around 5,000 children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and autism. The chairman of the government center’s board of directors, Father Jorge William Hernández Díaz explained to journalists that met as part of the Corripio Communications Group the importance of the services for families in the country that could not otherwise afford these.

In nine years of operation, CAID has diagnosed some 5,013 children with some type of disability, representing 61% of the total of 8,189 that have been evaluated in the three locations where they have an impact.

Currently, this entity has centers in Santo Domingo West, Santiago and San Juan, while a fourth facility will open in Santo Domingo East.

Of the more than 5,000 children attended, 75% have autism spectrum disorders (ASD), 10% have Down syndrome and approximately 10% have cerebral palsy.

The national director of CAID, Henry Rosa Polanco, pointed out that the Enhogar-2019 survey established that 10.1 % of the population under 12 years of age has some condition of disability.
