The Carnival Spirit cruise ship was in the right place at the right moment to rescue 24 people stranded on a small overcrowded boat in the Caribbean Sea. The 2,680-passenger ship was sailing to Aruba on an eight-night itinerary out of Miami, Florida. It was en route to Aruba when the ship’s officers spotted the group in distress on Tuesday, 11 April 2023. The group was taken on board the Carnival Spirit and was checked by the cruise ship’s medical staff that found them to be in good condition.
As reported, the US Coast Guard (USCG) and Dominican coastal patrols were contacted. Reports are that the occupants were migrants that were attempting to reach Puerto Rico. The coastal maritime authorities of the Dominican Republic took care of the people on the boat. At 3pm., a coast guard arrived to complete the transfer near La Romana in the Dominican Republic and the Carnival Spirit resumed its voyage.
