The director general of the Passport office (DGP), Digna Reynoso, told reporters that the Passports Office is now open from 8am to 9pm to resolve the backlog of passports. Unexplained inefficiencies and irregularities at the passport agency resulted in a major scarcity of passport booklets, causing several months delays in delivery of these.
Emergencies are attended to without an appointment, but evidence must be provided.
The DGP also announced that it is working on a tender to be issued for the purchase of at least a million new passports.
