The National Police is investigating an explosion that occurred during the morning of Saturday, 15 April 2023 at a firearms storage at the Police headquarters on Av. México in Santo Domingo. Police director Major General Eduardo Alberto Then instructed the General Inspectorate to find out what caused the explosion.
Two police were injured – sergeant major Edward Gomez Cuello and assistant sergeant Miguel Mota Pierre who suffered the amputation of a leg. Both men are recovering.
The police says that further details will be provided in due course. The Fire Department and the Department of Fire and Explosives Investigations of the National Police are investigating the causes of the explosion.
