The director of the Metropolitan Regional Health Service, Edisson Féliz, swore in Dr. Armando Camejo as director general of the San Lorenzo de Los Mina Maternity Hospital, replacing Dr. Leonardo Aquino.
Camejo is an obstetrician gynecologist, graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), who carried out his specialty in OByG at the same maternity hospital, where he now assumes the role of general director. Previously, he was director of the Centro Diagnóstico Municipal de Los Mina.
The doctor said he is taking the position with the commitment to improve the care of mothers and their babies.
The change comes after investigative journalist Nuria Piera published a report focusing on 34 newborn deaths at the hospital in February.
Media reports indicate 72 deaths at the hospital in the first quarter of the year.
