Indian Foreign Minister visits this week

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is scheduled to visit the Dominican Republic from 27 to 29 April 2023, on a final stopover of a tour that is taking him first to Guyana (21-23 April), Panama (24-25 April) and Colombia (25-27 April)

Jaishankar will be the highest level Indian government official to visit the Dominican Republic since diplomatic relations were established in 1999.

The trip is seen as an opportunity for the Indian foreign relations minister to meet with the 15 members of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) members within the Council on Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) framework. The Indian foreign minister will visit Guyana from 21-23 April, where he will also meet with Guyanese government officials and co-chair the joint commission with his counterpart, Hugh Hilton Todd.

Subsequently, Jaishankar will travel to Panama on the 24 and 25 April for meetings with representatives of the Central American Integration System (SICA). Panamanian Foreign Minister Janaina Tewaney Mencomo will lead this activity.

The Indian foreign minister will then travel to Colombia to meet with government, companies and civil society representatives.

According to the authorities of his country:
“The minister’s visit to these four countries, his bilateral commitments, as well as the interactions with counterparts from important regional groups (…) add to the momentum of the India-LAC (Latin America and the Caribbean) commitments.”
