Paraguay president-elect will work to strengthen relations

The opening of a non-stop flight from Santo Domingo to Asuncion, Paraguay is imminent. Arajet has requested permission to fly direct. Now the election of a new President in Paraguay reaffirms intentions for the strengthening of relations.

President Luis Abinader was among the first to congratulate the economist who won the presidency. President-elect Santiago Peña responded he was looking forward to working to improve bilateral relations.

“We are going to work to strengthen our bilateral relations and for a more united Americas for the benefit of our peoples,” Peña responded to Abinader via Twitter.

President Abinader had tweeted: “I congratulate Santiago Peña and the Paraguayan people for choosing their new President in a free and democratic civic journey. We will continue strengthening our bilateral relations towards a more united and prosperous Americas.”

Santiago Peña is the presidential candidate for the ruling party in Paraguay. The Colorado Party has dominated the political scene in the landlocked South American nation for more than 70 years. The Paraguayans also voted for Colorado Party legislators to secure the highest share of the vote.
