Muckraking journalist Nuria Piera spoke recently about how she has endured her mobile phone being hacked by Pegasus, the Israeli surveillance software. The hacking became a trending topic after Amnesty International confirmed the interventions.
The investigative journalist said the hacking occurred during the Danilo Medina administration, but she says it has also been documented as twice having occurred during the current Abinader administration.
Homero Figueroa, the spokesperson for the Abinader Presidency, denied the government has been hacking Nuria Piera.
Somos Pueblo attributes the hack to former presidential security corps director of the Danilo Medina administration, Adan Cáceres. Caceres is being tried for corruption in the past administration. Nuria Piera says former Prsident Danilo Medina gave instructions to hack the phone but not harm her.
The Amnesty International findings of the Nuria Piera cell phone hacking by the government and past Medina administration comes at a time when the Abinader administration has submitted a cybercrime bill to Congress.
