
Two juvenile professional Spanish soccer team players are joining the Dominican Republic U20 soccer team as it prepares to compete in the FIFA U20 World Cup that starts in Argentina on 20 May 2023.
17-year old Alejandro Martin Sapeg (Real Madrid Juvenil C) and Barca (FC Barcelona Juvenil A) player, 19-year old Derek Cuevas have joined the Dominican Republic U20 World Cup team that is on its first participation in a World Cup event.
Both born in Spain, but Martin and Cuevas have Dominican parents and share Spanish nationality.
The Dominican Republic U20 soccer team is in Argentina to participate in the FIFA U20 World Cup set for 20 May to 11 June 2023. The FIFA U-20 World Cup is the biennial football world championship tournament for FIFA members’ men’s national teams with players under the age of 20
The Dominican Republic placed in Group D along with Italy, Brazil and Nigeria, considered by experts as the “group of death” due to the high rankings of the rivals, with the exception of the Dominican team.
The Dominican Republic team will debut on 21 May against Nigeria. The second match will be on 24 May against Brazil. The third match in the first round will be against Italy on 27 May.
The three matches will take place at the Malvinas Argentinas Stadium in Mendoza, northwest Argentina.
The DR will play friendship games with Ecuador and Argentina before the match against Nigeria on 21 May.
