Latin American bank funds tourism developments from Santo Domingo office

CAF-Development Bank of Latin America is operating a Tourism Agency in Santo Domingo to back tourism investments in the region. This new CAF department, which is already in operation, places special emphasis on environmental, social, cultural and economic sustainability, as well as innovation, regeneration and inclusion, CAF reported in a press release.

CAF’s executive president, Sergio Díaz-Granados, highlighted the growth potential of the sector and the synergies that can be promoted through the new agency. The office expects to contribute to promoting tourism ventures as a key to employment and generation of foreign exchange.

The CAF Tourism Agency strengthens relations between the institution and the Dominican Republic. Oscar Rueda García, a lawyer from the Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá, with a master’s degree in Spanish-American literature from the University of Barcelona and a distinguished career in the world of tourism is the agency’s first director.

He has held positions in the sector as president of the Colombian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Anato), and was deputy minister of Tourism in Colombia for more than six years. He also has been president of the World Federation of Travel Agencies Associations and member of the Executive Committee of the UNWTO for four years.

The Dominican Republic joined CAF as a full member in December 2021. CAF is made up of 19 regional countries and 13 private banks.
