Tourist arrivals on path to surpass 9 million this year

The Dominican Republic received 862,705 visitors by air and sea in April 2023. The forecasts are now for more than nine million visitors this 2023.

Tourism Minister David Collado shared the stats on April arrivals during the usual monthly statistics presentation. He said the numbers once again set new tourism arrival records for the Dominican Republic tourism industry.

“April was the best April ever and also resulted in the best first four-month period in history with 3,745,475 visitors. This represents 36% growth,” said Minister Collado.

Ministry of Tourism statistics indicate that 681,567 tourists came by air, 9% more than in 2022 and 17% more than in 2019. Of this total, 587,455 were foreigners and 94,112 visiting Dominicans.

Overall, of the total 862,705, 681,567 flew into airports and another 181,138 came by sea.

Collado explained that the growth in cruise arrivals has been constant. He said the DR is becoming one of the regional leaders in maritime tourism.

In January-April 2023, the country received 3,757,810 tourists, 25% more than in 2022 and 17% more than in 2019.

Overall, the 3,757,810 tourists that arrived in the first four months of this year exceed the 2,340,959 of 2022 and the 2,460,423 of 2019.
