
Track star Marileidy Paulino, owner of an Olympic silver and gold medal and a recent Doha Diamond League gold, is now the USATF Grand Prix champion in the 400-meter event. Paulino is the top-ranked in the event worldwide. At the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix held 26-27 May 2023 at the UCLA Drake Stadium, she set a new Dominican record and posted the fastest time of the year for her event.
Her 48.98 time in the 400 meters in Los Angeles is a personal best for the outstanding Dominican athlete. Former world champion Saiwa Eid Nasser of Bahrein came in second with 50.27.
Lynna Irby-Jackson of the USA was third with 50.38, Sada Williams of Barbados was 4th with 51 and Stephenie Ann McPherson of Jamaica came in fifth with 50.38, Alexis Holmes USA clocked 51.74, Kendall Ellis of the USA 51.85 and Fiordaliza Cofil of the Dominican Republic was 8th with 51.91.
The USA Track & Field Grand Prix brought together an amazing group of top tier athletes, including ShaÇarri Richardson and other world and Olympic champions, such as Puerto Rico’s Olympic gold medalist in the 800 meters, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn. The event even saw a new world record in the shot put when Ryan Crouser hit 23.56 meters for an American and World Record.
