A local investor group announced operations will start this year at the Nisibon AirPark, part of a major real estate and touristic project under construction in Nisibón, La Altagracia province. The domestic airfield located in Las Lagunas de Nisibón RD-3, Carretera Bávaro-Miches is about 50 km north of Punta Cana International Airport and about 30 km from the new tourism developments in Miches in El Seibo province.
The operation of the domestic airfield was just recently authorized by the National Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC). The new airfield will have an aviators’ club and other activities related to the aeronautical sector, such as parashooting courses.
The expanded project investment is for US$125 million including multiple phases of the development. Nisibon Air Park is the first phase of an innovative project where buyers can purchase villas with aircraft hangars or hangar-homes, where the owners will be able to fly in and store their aircraft. The homes will have a bottom floor garage/hanger for the plane.
The idea is for the tourists to use their homes as a base for traveling to airfields in the rest of the Dominican Republic to enjoy the country without the traffic or delays of road travel.
Company promoter, Oscar Villanueva of Grupo Viamar says there are no other aeronautical, tourism and real estate offer in the Caribbean region offering this kind of facility. The Villanueva family is converting land from a forestry farm into the innovative tourism project, with the added attractions of eco-adventures in the area that features the Nisibon Lagoon and several rivers and low mountains.
The property has 6.7 kms of river and more than 2,200 hectares.
The first stage involves the construction and start of operations of the domestic terminal on a 23 million square meter property, with a 1,200 meters by 23 meters wide runway, an investment of more than US$9 million.
The second stage will include a real estate project, an adventure park with 13 attractions. Plans are for the center to offer instruction by the first parashooting school in the country. The project contemplates two themed hotels.
