50-year old José Benedito Rosario, the school bus driver slammed into by a grain freight truck on 30 May 2023 on the Hato Mayor del Rey-Sabana de la Mar highway, died on Friday, 9 June 2023. He had been taken to the intensive care unit at the Air Force Base Ramon de Lara hospital in eastern Santo Domingo but did not survive the serious injuries he suffered when the grain truck rammed into the school bus that was parked on the road to Hato Mayor.
His death brings to three the casualties of that tragic day. Two 15-year olds also died of fatal injuries suffered in the crash.
