Five Dominican historians inducted to Royal Academy of History of Spain

Five Dominican academicians were inducted on Friday, 9 June 2023 by the Royal Academy of History of Spain (RAH), in a ceremony presided over by RAH director of the entity, Carmen Iglesias Canó.

The historians who received their certificates as Corresponding Members were Juan Daniel Balcácer, president of the Dominican Academy of History, Miguel Reyes Sánchez, secretary, Frank Moya Pons, José Chez Checo and Manuel García Arévalo, full members.

The Spanish Royal Academy of History members get access to all the academy’s resources in Barcelona. The academy was established in 1737 by King Philip V to preserve the memory of the Spanish monarchy. It consists of 36 historians based in Madrid. Foreigners are admitted as “correspondientes” after nomination by three members and a majority vote of the full membership.

Iglesias Cano said the inductions are a true example of the transcendence of academic studies through time in the Dominican Republic.

“It is a privilege for the RAH to have these prestigious academics, and we are committed to continuing a close relationship with the Dominican Academy of History, one of the most prestigious Latin American entities,” said Iglesias Canó.
