A group of 22 Dominican companies were in Barcelona, Spain, at the SIL 2023 get-together that dealt exclusively with issues associated with logistics. The Dominican representatives were there to establish the country’s outstanding position and ability to become the logistics hub for the Caribbean area, said Johannes Kelner, the deputy director for Dominican Customs Authority.
Kelner said logistics is growing by “double digits” alongside much-improved infrastructure. He also noted that the Dominican Republic had excellent airline connections to the entire region. He spoke of the rising trade with the United States.
Regarding Europe, Kelner noted that the sea lanes to the country are some of the closest to Europe, at just nine days. The Dominican representative said that the objective of the country’s presence at the meeting in Barcelona was to impress upon everyone that the nation offers many advantages for companies seeking to improve logistical service in the region.
As part of SIL 2023, and joining synergies with SIL Knowledge, four major logistics-focused international congresses were held at the same time, bringing together the most prominent logistics experts: the 39th ALACAT Congress, the 18th European Conference & European Research Seminar of CSCMP, the 19th MedaLogistics Week and the 26th edition of EUROLOG.
