Super Tucanos bribes case to be heard again in court

The Super Tucanos corruption case was remanded to restart in a National District Court. The Court of Appeals revoked the court decision that in May 2022 had cleared former Minister of the Armed Forces Mayor General Pedro Rafael Antonio Peña, Air Force colonel Carlos Piccini Núñez, at the time in charge of special projects of the Dominican Air Force, and businessman Daniel Aquino Hernandez from the accusations of accepting bribes to favor the Air Force purchase of Super Tucano aircraft during the the administration of former President Leonel Fernandez.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office appealed the sentence that discharged those accused of receiving US$3.5 million in bribes from Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica (Embraer) in selling eight Super Tucano airplanes to the Dominican Air Force.

The court acted on an appeal presented by Wilson Camacho of the Specialized Administrative Corruption Prosecution Agency (Pepca) of the Attorney General Office.

The First Hall of the National District Court of Appeals judges Doris Pujols Ortiz, Rafael Báez and Carmen Mancebo annulled the decision that had discharged Peña, Piccini and Hernandez.
