President Luis Abinader announced “Validafirma,” a web platform for validation of digital documents and signatures. The platform is part of the Dominican Republic’s Digital Agenda 2030.
The Presidency reports the new tool makes it easier for individuals and legal entities to verify and validate the authenticity, integrity and legality of digitally-signed documents nationwide. It also can optimize and modernize processes for both the public and private sectors.
“Validafirma” is developed by the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel). During the presentation, Indotel president, Nelson Arroyo said the project is part of the steps taken to make the Dominican Republic more connected and modern.
“Authentication, document security and digital messaging are fundamental to assure stakeholders that their e-commerce transactions are done in an environment free from hacks or breaches,” explained Arroyo.
Arroyo pointed out that among the sectors to be impacted are the financial, legal, health and various public institutions.
He mentioned that among those that may benefit the most are the Central Bank, the Superintendency of Banks, the Superintendency of Securities, the Judiciary, notaries and lawyers’ offices, the Tax Agency, Customs Agency, the Comptroller General of the Republic, and financial intermediation entities, as well.
This project is framed within the powers granted by Electronic Commerce, Documents and Digital Signatures Law No. 126-02 and its Implementing regulations and complementary norms.
Through the platform, users can upload a digital document to obtain an evaluation and verification report of the signature format, signer’s data and status of the digital certificate of its provider.
The director of Cybersecurity, E-Commerce and Digital Signatures at Indotel, César Moliné explained that users can verify the date of issue of the certificate, the certification entity that issued it, the validity period and other relevant details.
It is also possible to verify whether the certificate and the electronic seals are valid and whether they have been revoked or expired.
