
President Luis Abinader and Vice President Raquel Peña are both scheduled to speak during the Business Future of the Americas (BFA) Conference taking place 14 June 2023 at the Hotel Embajador in Santo Domingo.
The Vice President joins Edwin de los Santos, president of American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic DR and Luis Laguerre, president of Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA), and AmChamDR executive vice president William Malamud in the welcoming of the delegates from 28 countries that are participating in the event.
The keynote speaker for the morning is former US Senator Christopher Dodd, today special US Presidential Advisor for the Americas. Dodd was Peace Corps volunteer from July 1966 to
September 1968 serving in the rural Dominican Republic village of Moncion in the northwest.
The program focuses on trade facilitation and nearshoring. Minister of Industry & Commerce Ito Bisonó will also be speaking.
Other speakers on the early morning program are: Andres Cadena, Bogota McKinsey & Company; Anne McKinney, US Chamber of Commerce; Steven Puig, president ADD BC and David Lewis of Manchester Trade.
Also on the morning program are Eduardo Sanz Lovaton, Customs Agency director; Basil Khalil, vice president Operations for FedEx for Central America and the Caribbean; Claudia Kattan-Jordan, vice present for Central America and Mexico for Crowley Maritime; Alexander Schad, president trade committee AmChamDR.
The morning program continues with: Andres Vasquez, director of Digital Intelligence for America Movil; Maria Waleska Alvarez, vice president AmChamDR. There will be a panel on the uture of Money with Silvia Constain, senior vice president for Visa; Fernando Llorca of Roche Labs; Bartolomé Martin, cybersecurity partner for Squire; Liza Niño; digital strategy director for TSS Soluciones de Tesorería.
The event continues with a video from Gina Raimondo, US Secretary of Commerce.

On the afternoon program focuses on electricity. Erick Lee, global strategist for Citi will be speaking, as well as Marcelo Aicardi, president of AES Mexico; Rolando Gonzalez Bunster, president of InterEnergy Group; and Howard Henry, chief of retail operations for Total Energies. The moderator will be Carlos Birbuet, president of the energy committee of AmChamDR.
The closing focuses on the Rule of Law as catalyzer for regional economic growth. Mary Fernandez, past president of the legal committee of AmChamDR will introduce the speakers. These are Alvaro Galindo, of the University of Georgetown Law Center; Mara Nelly Rivas, Cargill vice president for government relations; Flavio Dario Espinal, former legal advisor, founder of FDE Legal; Daniel Twining, president of International Republican Institute; and Luis Laguerre, KPMG director in Panama.
