Attorney General Miriam German Brito ordered an in-depth investigation into the case of a Higuey prosecutor who was detained by a police patrol for circulating in a vehicle without license plates or registration documents. The incident occurred on 15 June 2023 and a video circulated on social media throughout the weekend.
German Brito instructed the Inspector General of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Viterbo Cabral, and the head of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office of San Pedro de Macoris, Eudyce Fernandez, to investigate the incident between the prosecution employee Carol Darisel Morla and the uniformed officers that detained her, reportedly when she was on her way from La Romana to her home in Higuey.
The woman identified herself as a prosecutor but nevertheless was arrested for driving the vehicle without license plates nor documents. The Association of Prosecutors criticized the actions of the Police.
