
The grandson of 30-year long dictator Trujillo, Luis José Ramfis Rafael Trujillo (alias Ramfis Trujillo) chose to retract himself from a legal suit he had presented to Esta Noche con Mariasela for statements indicating he had a criminal track record in the United States. Mariasela Alvarez used a segment of her next program to back up the statements and say the comments were made based on evidence.
The Central Electoral Board (JCE) recently authorized the political party presented by Dominguez Trujillo, Partido de la Esperanza Democratica. Into the 2020 election, at last minute Dominguez Trujillo was impeded from running for President because he did not meet the requirements of renouncing his US citizenship nor living in the DR 10 years after the renouncing of the citizenship. In the months running up to the election in 2020, he was successful in fundraising in the United States and the Dominican Republic.
With the recognition of his political party, he will receive taxpayer funds for the political campaign activities. For the 2024 elections, he does not meet the requirements that impeded him from running in 2020.
Ramfis Trujillo has a following in the Dominican Republic and among expats who imagine he would become a Dominican Bukele, in reference to the hardline ruler in El Salvador and crack down on crime and gangs here.
Meanwhile, Luisa de Peña, director of the Memorial Museum of Resistance that highlights the atrocities of Trujillo, has requested the JCE hand over the file with the reasons why it has accepted that Dominguez Trujillo be behind a new political party in the country.
She regretted that the political party of a person convicted of fraud and money laundering in the United States be authorized to receive public funds.”
She recalled that there are people whose relatives were victims of the dictatorship, who still do not know where their parents are buried.
Two foundations, the Héroes 30 de Mayo and the Héroes de Luperón del 1949, have joined the demand for the documents.
“To certify a party that promotes the violation of rights is an attack against democracy”, insisted De Peña Díaz.
The also director of the Memorial Museum of the Dominican Resistance said that the threat to journalists by Ramfis Trujillo, without even being a candidate, is a sign of his authoritarianism. She was likely referring to the threats made to Mariasela Alvarez.

Jose Peguero interviews National Police Damián Arias Matos who defended the Trujillo legacy. The retired general, nevertheless, admitted the 2015 bans Dominguez Trujillo from running for President in the 2024 election.
