
Adjunct Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso is responsible for reading the accusations for illicit acts attributed to former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodriguez and 62 others in the Medusa Operation.
The Third Court of Instruction presiding judge Amauri Martinez said that the hearings with the charges presented in the Medusa Case will continue to be heard on Tuesdays and Fridays to advance the case. The file has 12,274 pages.
Rodriguez is accused of leading a criminal scheme that would have defrauded the Dominican state of more than RD$10 billion. The scheme would hae handled more than RD$1 billion in bribes.
“The more than ten billion pesos of the Humanization Plan were the main source of resources by which the accused Jean Alain Rodriguez Sanchez obtained millionaire profits,” read Yeni Berenice Reynoso in the courtroom. She said: “The criminal organization established a web of bribery, extortion, blackmail and unprecedented threats, to obtain the payments in a compulsive manner, managing to obtain by this means more than one billion pesos.”
Prosecutor Mirna Ortiz says that the Public Prosecutor’s Office narrative has been careful to ensure that its arguments are accompanied by references to evidence that will be presented later.
The prosecutors have presented criminal actions the investigation into the billionaire Plan for the Humanization of the Penitentiary System and related to Attorney General procurement. Rodriguez and accomplices are accused of forging signatures and documents, bribes and much more.
A lawyer who had worked in the private sector, Rodriguez was appointed Attorney General in 2016 by then President Danilo Medina.
