Arajet announces flights to Toronto’s Pearson International Canada in October 2023. The Dominican Republic recently signed a new aviation agreement with Canada. The flight would be Arajet’s first to Canada. In North America, the airline already flies nonstop to Mexico.
Likewise, Arajet has announced it will start new flights to Argentina and Chile in South America this fall. The airline this year began flights to Sao Paulo in Brazil.
In March of 2023, Arajet deposited a request to fly to the United States before the US Department of Transportation.
The airline that has its headquarters at Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) has requested a citizenship waiver in the US aviation agreement to fly to New York (JFK), San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) and Miami (MIA).
Victor Pacheco is a Dominican citizen, yet a minority owner of the airline. The US Department of Transportation file indicates that Hulansera, S.L. is the indirect owner of 80% of the common stock of Arajet.
Arajet president Pacheco has said that if permission is granted, flights from NY would cost around US$400 for a round trip to either Santo Domingo and Santiago.
The airline also wants to fly from Santo Domingo to Orlando, Boston and Providence in the United States. Another low cost Dominican-based airline, SkyHigh is already serving the Providence, Rhode Island route with a nonstop flight.
A new aviation agreement with the United States is under review in Congress.
Arajet flies new 737 Max 8s to Mexico, Peru, Colombia (Medellin, Bogota, Barranquilla, Cartagena), Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Aruba, St. Marteen, Curacao, Ecuador, Jamaica and Brazil.
