The Chamber of Deputies announced that the committee appointed to investigate the Chamber of Accounts will individually investigate each member of the auditing body to verify if any official committed misconduct in their functions before presenting its final recommendations.
.
The committee led by Rogelio Alfonso Genao declared itself in permanent session to render the report in the shortest time possible.
Previously, the committee had been interrogating and investigating the Chamber of Accounts as a whole. Now the committee says it seeks to “establish individual responsibilities.”
The investigations began after the president of the audit body, Janel Andres Ramirez complained that there was systemic disrespect to his role as leader of the institution and that decisions were taken without his consent. Then it was known that he had the backing of member Mario Fernandez, but not that of the three women members — Elsa Catano, Elsa Peña, Tomasina Tolentino — that have impeded moving ahead with the audits and instating full transparency at the Chamber of Accounts.
The special committee of deputies has another week to submit its conclusions on the alleged misconduct of members in the Chamber of Accounts. The Chamber of Deputies had requested a 15-day extension to present recommendations.
The committee has already spent a month and 10 days studying the minutes of the plenary, verifying internal documentation and analyzing the responses of the officials to establish its conclusions.
