
It was no secret that the entire country is suffering from a heat wave. Bret brought some respite, though.
Until the passage of the second tropical storm of the year, Bret, Santo Domingo and the rest of the nation was sweltering under temperatures that hovered in the mid-90s (F).
The Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte, announced that last Wednesday, 21 June that the energy demands of the country reached the historic high of 3,410 megawatts. He also said that 98% of this demand was met because of an additional 368MW that was added to the system via emergency measures taken by the government back in 2021.
Almonte attributed the record high demand to the positive economic growth the country is experiencing, along side the extremely high demand for “refrigeration” during the heat wave.
