President Abinader in Belize to meet with Central American leaders

President Luis Abinader flew to Belize to attend the 57th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Central American Integration System (SICA). He flew to Riversdale International Airport in Placencia, Belize for the two-day event. He is scheduled to return on Tuesday, 27 June 2023, the Presidency reports.

President Abinader traveled accompanied by Foreign Relations Minister Roberto Alvarez, the head of the Presidential Security Corps (CUSEP), Brigadier General Jimmy Arias Grullón, and his assistants Eilyn Beltran and Mercedes Pichardo.

President Abinader began his agenda at 6pm on Monday, 26 June participating in a reception and cultural experience the government of Belize offered to the visiting heads of state and government, foreign ministers and special guests.

On Tuesday, 27 June at 8:40am, President Abinader was scheduled to participate in the 57th Ordinary Meeting of Heads of State and Government of the Central American Integration System (SICA), at the Umaya Resort, a beach resort in Placencia, Belize.

The session would begin at 8:45am with remarks by the Prime Minister of Belize and President pro tempore of SICA, John Briceño.

At noon, the Prime Minister of Belize and pro tempore president of SICA, John Briceño will give the closing remarks on behalf of the heads of state and government. At 12:05pm the Secretary General of SICA, Werner Isaac Vargas, will have another intervention.

The transfer of the pro tempore presidency of SICA to the Republic of El Salvador is scheduled for 12:10pm.

The closing ceremony of the 57th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Central American Integration System (SICA) is scheduled for 12:20pm.

President Abinader will then participate in a lunch offered to the SICA heads of state and government and ministers of foreign affairs.
