Civil society requests that irregularities detected by the Comptroller’s Office be investigated by the state prosecutors

Members of the civil society urge the Public Ministry to follow up on the results of irregularities in several government departments based on audits carried out by the Comptroller’s Office.

The Comptroller’s Office that falls under the Presidency has released audits carried out during this government to numerous government departments.

The civil society pointed out that these audits are a precedent for current and future officials regarding managing state funds.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Homero Figueroa said that the entities are resolving the problems detected by the audits. The Comptroller Agency audits include recommendations so these irregularities in government are not repeated.

The audit carried out by the Comptroller’s Office to the Presidential Security Corps, for the period 1 September 2020 to 30 April 2021, reveals that entity does not have financial statements, in addition to the fact that payments for RD$55,269,800.00 were identified, for Intelligence operations, with no support documents.

Regarding the Strategic Projects Agency (Propeep) of the Presidency, the audit confirmed the findings presented in the program “El Informe con Alicia Ortega” on several projects executed by that entity during the administration of Jose Leonel (Neney) Cabrera. Despite the irregularities, the only action taken by the government was to accept the resignation of Cabrera from the position. He was sent to another post in government and now is a pre-candidate for mayor for the National District with an expensive billboard campaign all around the city.
