The deputy of the People’s Force, Tobías Crespo, does not agree with the recommendation for Congress to seek the impeachment of the five members of the Chamber of Accounts. Rogelio Genao Lanza, coordinator of the Special Committee that reviewed happenings at the Chamber of Accounts, has stated the deputies voted 9 in favor and 2 against this procedure. As reported, most of those voting in favor were members of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) or allies of the official party.
The Chamber of Accounts is responsible for auditing the present and past government actions.
Crespo says that the Chamber of Account members should reach an agreement for the benefit of the country.
He insisted that the present Chamber of Accounts has just one more year to go and that year is a pre-electoral one.
After several meetings, the special committee of the Chamber of Deputies that investigated the conflict within the Chamber of Accounts decided on Saturday, 25 June 2023 to submit a report to send the members of the audit body to impeachment.
The decision of the legislators was based on the finding of what they considered to be serious faults, some collective and others individual, which were found during the investigation of the members of the Chamber of Accounts, which began 45 days ago, according to the president of the special commission, Rogelio Genao Lanza.
The Special Committee has yet to issue the final report indicated the serious faults on which they are basing the recommendation for impeachment.
For the impeachment process to move ahead, the Chamber of Deputies needs a vote of 127 deputies in favor.
