Metro employees take their claim to the Presidential Palace

Metro employees protested in front of the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, 28 June 2023. They are protesting the cancellations of colleagues and demand better working conditions.

The protestors request to be received by President Abinader.

“We have a full plan of struggle. We will hold vigils, hunger strike and whatever is necessary so that our claim, which is just, is heard,” expressed Gary Alexander Hidalgo, who served as spokesman for the group.

They expressed that they have been dedicated for years to offer a quality service to Metro users, and that they do not deserve the injustice to which they are being subjected.

The Metro employees are requesting changes in their work schedules, the right to rest during the workday, more dignified conditions, salary increase and the replacement of those who have been cancelled. They also demand to be allowed to create an employee association.

The Metro employees are demanding wages of RD$45,000 for the experienced conductors.

Meanwhile, the Metro Office announced that the third Metro Line would not require human operators. The government expects to start construction of Line 3 this year.
