Aspiring politicians have been campaigning for months. Now the Central Electoral Board (JCE) says the race is officially on. The JCE declared open the campaign for the political parties to choose their candidates in the 2024 municipal (18 February) election. The deadline for submitting the pre-candidates at the municipal level is 17 August 2023.
The Central Electoral Board (JCE) opened the municipal campaign period as of 2 July, established by Resolution 14-23 and Electoral Regime Law 20-23.
The JCE also reminded political parties that on 1 October 2023 is the date for the political party primaries for the presidential elections.
The JCE also set ceilings to spending for the precampaign. For the presidential precampaign, the pre-candidates can spend a maximum of RD$565 million. The congressional and presidential elections will be held later, in 19 May 2024.
