Nuria unmasks another fake doctor; Ministry of Public Health shuts down her office the next day

During her Saturday, 1 July 2023 weekly investigative report, Nuria Piera revealed the practice of a Venezuelan immigrant lawyer who posed as a plastic surgeon. Piera revealed that Karla Maria Moya Boada and Ignacio Olivares González are listed in the National Industrial Property Office (ONAPI) as the owners of the office Ki Centro Médico Integral del Caribe, located on Independencia Avenue, registered in February 2011, with the corporate purpose of “aesthetic, facial and body medical services.”

Piera showed a photo of Moya Boada with her diploma in surgery from the Central University of Venezuela in the background. Yet, when Nuria Piera visited the office of Moya Boada to ask her about exercising medicine in the Dominican Republic without being authorized to do so, the title was not in her office as required by law.

Piera ascertained that Moya Boada had deposited a photocopy of her title in the Ministry of Superior Education four years ago, but when to complete the registration process, she was asked to bring an original with apostille, she never did so.

Making matters worse, Piera said that Moya Boada irregularly used the exequatur of general surgeon Yamile Genara Diplan Vásquez, exequatur 256-16, for the medical prescriptions.

When confronted with the irregularities, Moya Boada asked the investigative journalist to leave her plush office.

The day after the visit, the Ministry of Public Health ordered the shutdown of the aesthetics clinic.

In the Dominican Republic there are medical societies with lists online of legitimate physicians people should consult before undergoing any procedure. In the case of plastic surgeons, the society is the Plastic Surgeon Society (Sodocipre).

Nuria Piera has been revealing the cases of fake doctors and psychologists. She also revealed the existence of a network that forged medical titles from universities in Spain. She is campaigning for the authorities to become more involved in regulating the medical offices and the physicians. She urges patients to verify the credentials of the physicians with medical societies before contracting services.
